Paul Baumgarten's outstanding 1950s building is a building steeped in history. The listed building represents the beginning of modernism in post-war Berlin. In the 1960s, the building was home to the Berlin Philharmonic under the direction of Herbert von Karajan.
Today, the concert hall is the vibrant center of the Faculty of Music at the UdK Berlin. Our symphony orchestra's rehearsals and concerts take place here, and concert examinations and competitions are held here.
There are few spaces in Berlin that have preserved the style of their era as authentically as the concert hall foyer. In the leased catering area in the upper foyer, guests are served before events, during intermissions, and at receptions.
The concert hall underwent extensive renovations in 2009 and 2010. In addition to the installation of new seating, the stage technology, acoustics, lighting, and ventilation systems were improved.
