Innokentiy Ivanov is a Ukrainian vibraphonist, percussionist, composer, and arranger whose music bridges cultures and genres. Trained in classical percussion but rooted in the language of jazz, he spent many years in Moscow, where he became one of the city’s most prominent vibraphonists and a regular presence at major jazz festivals.
Since 2008, Innokentiy has led his own project, Ivanov Vibe, performing original compositions that blend jazz fusion with baroque, neoclassical, ethnic, and rock influences. His music is richly layered and structurally complex, yet it remains deeply melodic and accessible—even for listeners new to jazz. Alongside his band, he has also toured as a soloist with big bands in Ufa, Kazan, Tula, and Karaganda.
In 2017, he launched a symphonic jazz program in collaboration with the UMB Symphony Orchestra, later adapting it for string quartet—a format that brought his music into clubs and festivals alike. His works often take the form of narrative suites: Picture of the World, an ethno-jazz journey through the traditions of Scandinavia, the Balkans, Ancient Rus, and Japan; and Cosmology, a musical exploration of the universe’s formation.
In June 2023, after a concert tour in Baku, Ivanov was detained at the Russian border as a Ukrainian citizen. Refusing to sign pro-war declarations, he was deported. That event marked a turning point: soon after, he relocated to Berlin and began a master’s program in jazz composition at the Jazz Institute Berlin (UdK).
Now, with a new lineup of Ivanov Vibe—featuring musicians from Ukraine, Russia, Colombia, and Germany—Innokentiy continues to shape his unique vision: music that crosses boundaries and speaks many languages, both cultural and musical.
