Lankum is a modern Irish folk band from Dublin, featuring multi-instrumentalists Ian Lynch, Daragh Lynch, Cormac MacDiarmada, and Radie Peat. The group began as a duo called Lynched, formed by the Lynch brothers, who became immersed in Dublin’s traditional music scene. This led them to collaborate with vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Radie Peat and violinist Cormac MacDiarmada.
Their sound has been described as "a younger, darker Pogues with more astonishing power." In a review of their 2019 album The Livelong Day for The Guardian, Jude Rogers described it as "a folk album influenced by the ambient textures of Sunn O))) and Swans, plus the sonic intensity of Xylouris White and My Bloody Valentine".
In 2018, they won Best Folk Group at the RTÉ Folk Music Awards, with Radie Peat also earning Best Folk Singer.
Their fourth album, False Lankum (2023), received widespread acclaim, earning a Mercury Prize nomination and high placements on year-end lists. The band further expanded their reach with Live in Dublin (2024), a live album recorded during three sold-out shows at Vicar Street in Dublin.
