Help us bring Field Notes to the stage

Planning our preview event Field Notes this autumn in Berlin is an exciting step for us. Ideas are beginning to take shape, new collaborations are emerging, and the project is already laying the groundwork for something bigger: the first full edition of the FreeForm Tradition Festival in 2027. But first, we need to make Field Notes happen.

That is why we are launching our crowdfunding campaign today!

As a young initiative, we are still building the structures, partnerships and track record that will allow us to access larger funding opportunities in the future. At this stage, community support and private contributions are essential.

Do you make music shaped by tradition, experimentation or cultural exchange? Or are you simply curious to discover sounds that rarely find space in today's festival landscape? Then you may have noticed the same thing we have: many musical practices remain underrepresented or are reduced to simplified categories such as “world music”, despite being very much part of our shared present.

With Field Notes, we want to create a different kind of space.

The Field Notes programme brings together multi-award-winning Armenian pianists Vardan Gyodakyan and Arthur Grigoryan, Norwegian-Berlin-based folk musician Iris Mar, and kanun player Ömer-Kaan Özdağ. Through concerts, listening sessions and collaborative formats, they will share their work, methods and musical perspectives with audiences in Berlin.
