The Freeform Tradition Festival is happy to introduce its curatorial team, the driving force behind our programming. This group of music professionals brings together various experiences and expertise to shape the festival's vision and curate a unique musical experience.
Our curatorial team operates on a collaborative basis. No single individual has the final say in determining the program, ensuring a democratic and inclusive approach to artistic decision-making. We aim to create a festival that resonates with a wide range of audiences by fostering open dialogue and diverse perspectives.
By bringing together individuals from various backgrounds, we ensure that the festival program offers a diversity of genres and artistic practices. These curators introduce multiple perspectives to connect in our program creative practices from seemingly "different worlds.”
All curators share our festival's overarching vision and conceptual framework in representing diverse approaches to and interpretations of local, regional, or ethnic music phenomena. These approaches span a wide spectrum, ranging from practices that preserve an authentic sound to those that radically depart from tradition, reinventing it into a new local sound.
Rather than relying on global genre classifications, we focus on connecting seemingly disparate musical styles and contexts. This approach allows us to present a more nuanced and authentic representation of contemporary music, highlighting the diversity of local and traditional sounds.
To maintain our festival's relevance and freshness, we periodically update the composition of our curatorial team. This dynamic approach ensures that we remain adaptable and responsive to the ever-evolving musical landscape.
